The ASIC Registry is a national database where companies file their records, ownership information and other important data. It's incredibly important to transparency and regulating large corporations - but it's also a vital part of the Latrobe Valley economy.
The Turnbull Government is trying to sell off the ASIC registry. This will have devastating consequences for communities in the Latrobe Valley, with hundreds of jobs at the ASIC office in Traralgon under threat.
Traralgon could lose 350 jobs if the privatisation proceeds, adding pressure to unemployment with more than 1000 expected job losses from the Hazelwood power station due next April.
