Don’t Centralise Our Weather Forecasting

Scott Morrison’s government and the Director of the Bureau of Meteorology have plans to centralise forecasting. This will mean moving forecasting from across Australia to just Melbourne and Brisbane. This is against the advice of the forecasting experts within the BoM. Australia needs localised forecasting for safer communities.

Sign the petition to let Environment Minister Melissa Price and BoM Director Dr Andrew Johnson know that you think centralising BoM forecasters would be a disaster.

    Don’t take jobs off Tasmanians and don’t move the jobs out of Tasmania.

    Keep our forecasting local.

    BoM local forecasts are important and I use them regularly to plan outdoor activities.

    How is this sensible? Sydney, or even NSW , is not important. We face massive climate disruptions, and it will affect 40% of the Australian population! I think this is a crazy decision.

    As an outdoor enthusiast and educator, I regularly consult BOM localized reports frequently and value this service. I support BOM to continue the work it’s been doing in the way they’ve been doing it.
