Don’t Centralise Our Weather Forecasting

Scott Morrison’s government and the Director of the Bureau of Meteorology have plans to centralise forecasting. This will mean moving forecasting from across Australia to just Melbourne and Brisbane. This is against the advice of the forecasting experts within the BoM. Australia needs localised forecasting for safer communities.

Sign the petition to let Environment Minister Melissa Price and BoM Director Dr Andrew Johnson know that you think centralising BoM forecasters would be a disaster.

    Just how many more departments can be changed into disasters by centralising, next you will be wanting to privatise BoM. Leave our forecasters local keep the jobs as local as possible.

    I live in a bushfire zone and want to retain local forecasters looking at local Victorian weather. There is nothing smart about centralising work which needs locals.

    I live in a bushfire zone and as more and more severe weather events occur know how important it is that forecasting continues to be done by local forecasters

    I prefer to receive local weather forecasts so please do not centralise weather information. Presumably this proposal will result in the loss of jobs. I don’t support the proposal on these grounds either.

    Another brilliant idea from the Morrison Government. No doubt it fits into their grand scheme of doing nothing about the climate and if there are less people to report on the weather they can ignore it all.

    Centralising everything to the SE of Australia has never been of benefit to Western Australia, the Northern Territory or Tasmania and centralising weather forecasting is extremely dangerous and another reason to vote the LNP out.

    Dear PM Morrison,

    Please don’t centralise our BoM! Living in the country(near Moree) we utilise our local service almost daily! Its terribly important to country folk, and others I’m sure.

    Not only that, regional areas are screaming out for jobs and yet here you intend to move another facility and workers to/near already overcrowded city areas!

    Have you thought of what would happen if one of these facilities went down I’m talking weather event here, but then I thought what about in times of war?? Taking out two stations would be easy, while regional centres are hidden in the vastness of the countryside.


    There are many reasons for keeping local BoM stations, please reconsider and let us keep our local ones.
