Put People Before Profits!

Protect public sector jobs, not consultants

We believe in a public service that works for all of us, upholding values of transparency, accountability, and fairness.

Real job cuts are happening in public sector agencies right now.

We are witnessing the loss of trained and trusted public sector workers in the name of budget savings, while big consulting and labour hire firms continue to pocket millions of dollars for doing public sector work.

Events such as the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) tax scandal, have shed light on the alarming practices employed by consultants, where they profit from assisting multinational tax dodgers while advising the government on tax laws. This scandal has not only harmed our community but has also exposed the deep-seated mistrust surrounding the use of costly consultants in our public service and also erodes trust in the integrity of our public service.

There has been mixed progress from agencies on reducing their reliance on contractors and consultants.

All APS agencies should be setting ambitious targets to reduce their use of contractors and consultants, while working proactively to build internal capability and capacity. And the Albanese Government should be demanding this more proactive approach.

It's time for action! Join us in urging the Albanese Labor Government to take these next steps towards a more transparent and accountable public service.
