For months we’ve been asking Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to step in and stop the cuts to climate science at the CSIRO – now secret tapes have revealed that the Government's attitiude towards climate science is behind the cuts.

'It's a fundamental shift away from curiosity-led research toward impact... The federal government was CSIRO's most important 'customer', and it no longer wanted what the climate scientists were selling.

'I don't mean to be insensitive,' said Dr Marshall, 'but you have to get real about your customer.'"

    Government confirms climate change is real and determined that adaptation is the most cost effective path forward, so they are sacking some of the world’s leading scientists that do long term climatic modelling. However how are you meant to undertake cost effective adaptation policy or measures if you don’t have a long term information on the climate for Australia?

    This proposal to remove our Climate scientist from CSIRO , @ a time when Australia’s most iconic and internationally & Nationally loved environment, the Great Barrier Reef is in terminal decline from climate change, is short sighted, irresponsible & down right negligent.

    One could go so far as to say that the Federal government is, with impunity, aiding and abetting, ecocide, the deliberate destruction of our life support systems!

    And I believe, in the future, will be found culpable!

    The Australian government should be adding additional resources to climate science not cutting it. We need to understand how our climate system is responding and what changes this will bring to Australia and our region so we can adapt and mitigate. CSIRO is leading this science for our nation and is recognised as a world class capability for the Southern Hemisphere. We have global recognition and impact, there is no sense in CSIROs decisions. Further funding is critical to Australia’s future. We need sustainable agriculture, industries and cities. We won’t have this if we turn our backs on climate change science. Stand up for Australia.

    My son is finishing a PHD in astrophysics this year enspired by the work of CSRIO. You give voice to encouraging students to do science degrees but is there any real chance of a job in Australia ?

    Dear Malcolm

    55 years ago as a teenager, I visited Canberra, and instantly became an avid fan of CSIRO. Since then I have been incredibly proud of the many and varied contributions to science by CSIRO, and it inspired me to pursue a scientific-based hospital career. their work on climate change is clear and relevant, and as a grandmother, I have spent much of my retirement raising awareness of the threat of global warming to future generations. It is so important to continue the integrity and research of CSIRO, to encourage our talented young scientists to develop solutions to support this great country.

    Dear Mr Turnbull, Please take action to save the CSIRO. This is my second written message to you regarding this issue. I have also written to the Minister for Science Mr Pyne. It seems that your spoken words about your commitment to science are contradicted by your actions which undermine your fine words. I believe It would be a revelation to many Australians to find that your rhetoric matches your actions and that you affirm your belief that we need to take action to counter climate change.     Malcolm one reason I’ve heard for the cuts was that the science for establishing climate change is well and truly established. If that is the case then why are there MPs within the LNP who are vocal skeptics and so holding back appropriate policies; policies that should have been implemented ages ago to prevent the damage to the Great Barrier Reef and the increase in temperature.

    We need the CSIRO climate scientists more than ever, not just to track the changes but to assist in the development of efficient renewables.
