For months we’ve been asking Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to step in and stop the cuts to climate science at the CSIRO – now secret tapes have revealed that the Government's attitiude towards climate science is behind the cuts.

'It's a fundamental shift away from curiosity-led research toward impact... The federal government was CSIRO's most important 'customer', and it no longer wanted what the climate scientists were selling.

'I don't mean to be insensitive,' said Dr Marshall, 'but you have to get real about your customer.'"

    These cuts threaten our national interests in many ways: we will not be able to maintain our research, loose our competitive edge, loose our employment opportunities for current and future scientists, loose our ability to be innovative.It impacts on cooperative international ventures loosing massive resource access capabilities worth huge dollars. When weighed against possible future income from Marshall’s commercialisation plans its not worth it. If Marshall’s plans were a value add, rather than slash and burn it might be another story.

    Why declare war on our best and brightest? They need our support. You will force them to take their talents overseas in order to find work and our nation will be much worse off. Combine this with the decimation to our manufacturing industry and we have had the effects of war in peacetime. Where do the taxes come from? Our Australian people, working. This has not been well thought out and the government should be ashamed!

    CSIRO Scientists are held in high regard worldwide. It is a shame that our current Government does not believe in science.

    CSIRO science is world class. Climate change is overwhelmingly important. It is impossible to understand what is being done to the practice of science in Australia. Please step in and stop the cuts in climate, ocean, soil and water science.

    Urgent…we are Australian…stop before Turnbull destroys this country..people are very afraid of the Liberal Party…Cuts to Climate Scientists we the people of Australia have not given you any permission to deny the work of the scientific establishment funding cuts…

    Mr Turnbull you and your team have lost your way….Australia will not support you…..it is the tax payers money you are handling ….Research by CSIRO is not negotiating our best interests around the world…be sensible not stupi..

    Never have we been more in need of our scientists. Perhaps our Federal Government might appoint better leadership of the CSIRO.

    How can we talk about wanting a renewed push for ideas and innovations to grow our economy while at the same time be cutting deep into a world renowned Australian organisation with a track history of doing exactly that?

    A cut to the number of climate scientists directly affects our future. Not short term but essential long term which seems to have been forgotten.
