Send Malcolm a Message
For months we’ve been asking Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to step in and stop the cuts to climate science at the CSIRO – now secret tapes have revealed that the Government's attitiude towards climate science is behind the cuts.
'It's a fundamental shift away from curiosity-led research toward impact... The federal government was CSIRO's most important 'customer', and it no longer wanted what the climate scientists were selling.
'I don't mean to be insensitive,' said Dr Marshall, 'but you have to get real about your customer.'"

We must gather evidence through experiments and data over long terms, years, in fact, and scientists have to have the certainty of long term funding for their research in all fields plus a generous salary to attract and retain the brightest minds here in Australia.
This is critical if we are going to be part of the solution, and not the problem, to the world’s massive and life threatening issues as well as being a truly innovative culture where ideas can flourish and be supported to come to commercial reality if that is what eventuates from the vital research.
If this is your government’s example of an acme of human innovation, then we are a nation in academic and educational trouble.
I am often amazed that your government displays such anti-intellectual and anti-wisdom manners. I feel personally distressed as our national science achievements are spurned and turned to rubbish.
Honestly, isn’t it time your government of fiddling Neros noticed the environmental damage being done by Big Business in its ignorance and greed, and listened to your science graduates and sages?
At one time Prime Minister Turnbull, we future-philes hoped you would step up for science and the planet. Now our Great Barrier Reef is a source of deep sadness and grief. Isn’t it overdue to change policies?
We need our scientists to develop strategies to preserve our environment for our children and grandchildren. We also need their contribution to build the innovative nation you keep telling us about. Please meet with them, some of our country’s most brilliant minds, and stop the cuts which jeopardise our future.
Regards
Carol Jordan
