Protect our threatened species

Our most threatened species could slip into extinction because the Coalition Government wants to slash the jobs of 60 of the people who are working to protect them.

Seventeen birds and mammals are expected to disappear in the next year 20 years unless Australia improves its protection of threatened species and their habitat.

The survival of species including the orange-bellied parrot, Northern hopping mouse and helmeted honeyeater depends on the community standing up stop the cuts to the Department of Environment and Energy staff who work to prevent Australia’s accelerating extinction rate. We need long-term resourcing for policy, protection and regulation.

Sign to send a message to The Minister for Environment and Energy Melissa Price, that the community will not stand for these cuts.

    Minister Frydenberg, here in Tasmania it is patently obvious that your government is failing its international obligations on threatened species – not only you have defunded 2 of the regional NRM bodies, but you have rubberstamped a new RFA that rides roughshod over the habitat requirements of the critically endangered Swift Parrot, opening the gate for logging this precious resource, whilst tossing the rest of the nation under the bus to allow fracking which will destroy what precious water resources we still have whilst looking down the barrel of runaway global warming due to climate change.

    Minister Frydenberg, please think of future generations, the children and make sure you’re not remembered as the one who signed all that was once precious about our great country, away to be lost like the iconic Tamanian Tiger. ACT NOW before it’s too late. Please invest properly in our threatened species, Stop the Adani mine and institute new environmental laws that will protect what precious little we have left after the last 200+ years of colonial ransacking of this unique and fragile environment.

    We need stronger protection for our threatened species and their habitat and that cannot be achieved by cuts to the Department of Environment and Energy staff.

    These species cannot be protected from extinction without the help and care of skilled and experienced workers. protect the jobs of Environment and Energy staff, and in turn protect our most vulnerable and endangered species.

    Our distinctive wildlife is worth preserving – it is not only glorious and colourful but little mammals and marsupials turn over the soil and create a richer soil!!
